Drainage Plan Implementation Update

Here is a Tenative Schedule

  • Preparation of the LINC Drainage and Stormwater Master Plan is currently in preparation (contracted with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers). Originally scheduled for draft completion in June, 2006 the plan draft has been delayed until October 1, 2006.
  • Plan preparation is funded through an intergovernmental agreement among the following governmental entities: Lafayette Consolidated Government, City of Broussard, City of Carencro, Town of Duson, City of Scott, City of Youngsville and the Bayou Vermilion District.
  • New Flood Plain Maps for the parish are being prepared in coordination and cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • It is anticipated that the new draft Flood Plain Maps will be reviewed and revised through January, 2008 before official acceptance and adoption.
  • The current official Flood Plain Maps are the only reference for building elevation standards. Builders and property owners should use caution as new information is made available.
  • The LINC Drainage and Stormwater Plan includes a new computer drainage capacity model for the parish and should be a critical tool in flood plain management. Model testing is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2006.
  • For information updates contact: Mike Hollier, Planning Manager, phone 291-8016.
