SURVEY: LUS and LCG Public Works have collaborated to get a clearer understanding of how to better assist the Lafayette community's outdoor watering needs. They are requesting Lafayette residents take a 5-minute survey that will ask questions about their outdoor watering activities. The survey will allow LUS and Public Works to determine the interest level of participants in using a rain barrel as a method for their outdoor watering.  (Click here for Survey)

Why is it important to have a public services plan?

Health care, law enforcement, education, and taxes covers a lot of territory and each of these impact every citizen at some point in their lives. What is the current level of service being provided and what are the expectations in the future? Opening and closing schools, libraries, fire stations, police precinct stations, hospitals and clinics are important to the health and welfare of all residents. Equitable assessment and taxation plays a giant foundational role in the delivery of public services (both public and private). Comprehensive, coordinated, and cooperative planning is needed to insure public services are operated as efficiently as possible rather than independently and inconsistently.

How does a public services plan affect me?

Interest in the education of children, the security of your home, neighborhood or business, the health of family, friends and business associates, or the amount of taxes you must pay each year are some of the impacts identified in the public services plan. It should be very difficult, if not impossibly, not to be affected by public services at some point in time.

The Comprehensive Master Plan

HOUSING AND NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN

The Public Services Element encompasses a broad range of recommendations addressing public safety, public information, schools, libraries, and tax collection. Public safety recommendations are suggested for police, fire, sheriff, and emergency medical services. School recommendations include consideration of changing the length of the school day and school year, the necessity of adequate school supplies, and the importance of adequate teacher pay. Library recommendations include a goal of exceeding national minimum library standards, and the expansion of the library system in geographic area, services, and activities. The recommendations on tax collection focus on the creation of a fair and equitable taxing system that will provide a broad tax base to support local services.
