Long Range Transportation Plan

The Lafayette Parish MPO is responsible for the comprehensive, coordinative, and cooperative transportation planning process throughout Lafayette Parish and is comprised of a board of elected officials from local governments and transportation agencies.

Under the federal Transportation Equity Act for the 21st century (TEA-21), MPOs in larger urban areas are required to update long range transportation plans every three years. Socio-economic and legislative changes, as well as new studies, revenue forecasts, and community issues have influenced the long-range transportation picture since the adoption of the 2012 Long Range Transportation Plan in 1990. To account for these changes, the Lafayette Parish Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is developing a Long Range Transportation Plan through the year 2030.

The 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan serves as the cornerstone for comprehensive transportation planning throughout Lafayette Parish. The purpose of the Plan is to identify the location, function, and size of new or improved transportation infrastructure and services for the areas that are expected to be incorporated over the next 30 years.

The 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan is a collective effort to address the development of a community-wide transportation system. The Plan proposes a balanced transportation system, taking into account considerations such as personal mobility, growth management, regional economic development, neighborhood preservation, environmental concerns and citizen participation.
