The next upriver bridge at General Mouton Avenue (Louisiana Hwy 729) does not open for river traffic.

The Vermilion River is not navigatable past the General Mouton River Bridge.

The Vermilion River is also known locally as the Vermilion Bayou and the Bayou Vermilion.
